THE HONGKONG WEEKLY PRESS AND
These facts showed a great negligace on the part of officia's of the Bard, and to put tie owners to the exyene of «nding in a fresn plan was a matter that called for somer mark. It was not only the expense of getting a fresh plan, but the building of the house wisd lay- upd.and all through the fault of the engineer in
not giving pronar lareis, an [thi>Burl pissing, the plan. Mr. Hooper conclu l» i by citing that he wished to enter his protist, and call paid e attention to the matter.
Mr. Ng Li-ling applied for the Board's sanction to make
use of
certain piece of ground in Kowloon City for a public cemetery for the Fukinese residing in the Colony. The ground referred to
the: applicant's property, and had an area of about 150 acres and it was his intention to give for the use of his countrymen as a cemetery. If, however, from a sauitary point of view the site was not suitable, he was preparel to surrender it to Government in exchange for another on the Kowloon side which might be considered suitable.
Dr. MA FARLANE, Assistant Medical Officer of Health, minnted : I don't see any objection from a sanitary point of view to the site of the proposed cemetery. I think a register should be kept open to inspection by the Sanitary Department as I understand is the case in the Christian cemetery near here. We hate no jurisdiction at all,
The SANITARY Surveyor said the site was suitable for the purpose as the Fukinese das A very small community.
The MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH-I should like first to know what is the opinion of the Director of Public Works on the subject, as the allocation of this site as a cemetery may interfer with the projected laying out of Kowloon in regard to roads, etc, in which case it is a useful suggestion.
The VICE PRESIDENT-I think there is no objection to this site being used as a cemetery.
The REGISTRAR-GENERAL-It is so difficu!! to find uitable cemetery siles on Crown and that I think this offer of private land should be accepted.
Mr HOOPER-I think this offer should be accepted provided the land is surrendered to Government and that the cemetery be subject to the regulations of the Sanitary Board.
Mr. LAU CHO-PAK-I agree with the Tegistrar-General that such a generous offer should be accepted.
The application will be considered at next meeting.
APPLICATION FOR EXEMPTION REFUSED.
Correspondence was submitted relative to section 8 and clause 11 of schedu's G of the Public Health and Buildings Ordinanc», 1943, in respect of the 16 houses on the Southeru Portion of Prava Reclamation Marine Lot No. 57 (houses in Des Voeux Road West and Ko Shing Street).
