CHINA OVERLAND TRADE REPORT.

at 821. China Providents, Dairy Farms and Electrios have found buyers at last weeks quota - tions, China Providents being still in demand at time of closing. Cements have been placed in fair lots at $21 and $214, closing steady at the latter rate. Chins Light and Powers are enquired for at 894, after a small sale at that rate. We have nothing further to report.

BANKS.-Hongkong and Shanghais in the early part of the week ruled somewhat erratic, and shares changed hands almost simultaneous- Alhambra ly at 882 and $825, the latter rate, however, being the more in evidence. Later on, the re- port of new loans to Chins and Siam gavo a fillip to the market, both here and in London. and a small demand was only met by a rise in the rate to $85, at which a few shares changed hands. The London rate has risen from £94. 10s. to £97, the latter being the last advices received per Reuter's on the 9th inst. The market oloses with further buyers and no shares obtain- able under $840.

MARINE INSURANCES,—Unions have been done at $750, buyers ruling the market at the close. A few small lots of China Traders have been offered during the week, but as the extended time for converting the scrip into Unións expired on the 31st ulto, no buyers came forward, and the rate fell to a nommal one of $90. The Northern Insurances remain dull and without and local business.

FIRE INSURANCES.-Hongkongs have im proved their position and with an unsatisfi'd demand at 8335 have been placed at 8340, olosing with an unsatisfied demand at the latter rate. Cbinas continue in demand, and small sales have been made at $934, the market olesing with further buyers,

SHIPPING.-Hongkong, Canton and Macaca have been done during the week at 829 $29 and $30, closing with probable sellers of the last rate Indo-Chinas, after receding in Shanghai to Tls, 60, close firmer with local buyers at $86, and at Tis. 624, in Shangbai. China Mauilas have found buyers at $211 and $22 Ferries have improved to $30 with sales, while the new issue has buyers at $20. Doug- laces have declined to $36 without business.

REFINERIES.-China Sugars are reported to have changed hands at $123. $122 and $121, the market closing firmer with small buyers at 8129. Luzons remain unchanged and without business,

MINING. Raubs bave ruled weak, and with sellers and no buyers at $9 the rate fell to 89, at which a few shares changed hands, the market closing quiet at the latter rate Charbonnages remain unchanged and without business.

DOCKS, WHARVES AND GODOWNS.-Hong. kong, and Whampoa Docks continue to rule rather firmer, and in the absence of sellers to satisfy the demand at $145, the rain improved of $147, with buyers and small sales. Kow- loon Wharfs bave been negotiated at the im- Philippine Co. proved rate of 896, ard there are a few sellers at that rate at the time of closing. New Amoy Dooks have further declined to $15 without sales. Shangbai Docks have con- tipped, weak, and on the anaourcement of no Avidend have fallen to $102 with sellers, both locally and in Shanghai. Shanghai and Hongkew Wharfs have improved their position considerably, and have advanced to $245 buyers in Shanghai.

LANDS, HOTELS, AND BUILDINGS.-Hong- kong Lande with a smoll demand have further improved, and after a few small sales at 8107. $108 and $109 are now erquired for at 8110 Hongkong Hotels have found buyers at $112, and elpse steady at that rate. Humphreys have further advanced to $114, closing with boyara. Shanghai Lauds are quoted in the north at Tls. 101.

COTTON MILLS-In the Northern mills the only ebangs to report is a drop in Laou Kung Mons to Tha. 103. Hongkongs have also re- orded to $124 sellers.

FREIGHT.

Messrs. Wheelock & Co.'s report of January 3rd 1007, states:--As was only to be expected there has been very little doing on our Homeward Freight market during the past fortnight and there is nothing special to report except that the last boat on the New York berth via Suez was heavily over engaged owing to an unexpected rush of ten. Coast wise-This market is also pretty much in the same state as at last time of writing : -There is no demand worth speaking of in any direction, whilst tonnage seeking employment is plentiful and likely to remain so until next March
