Messrs. Wheelock & Co.'s Freight Market Report, dated Shanghai, 25th October, 1906, states-Our Homeward Freight Market has remained in the same state as at last time of writing, although things should improve alightly during the next few weeks, after which the Northern Ports will be closed for the winter. Coast wise: -We are very pleased to be able to record a decided change in affairs on the coast, rates have risen all round owing to a brisk demand in all directions and a scarcity of tonnage seeking employment. There is some slight demand for River Freights besides the usual coasting business, with various enquires for coal
freights, so that the market at the close is very firm with an upward tendency.
