HONGKONG, 5th October, 1906.-We have no business of any importance to report. The market continues dull and inactive, and with

the exception of a further tendency to weakness in rates there are no special features to note.

BANKS.-Hongkong and Shanghais. There has been some demand for small lots, and several

parcels bare charged hands at $300. The latest London rate ner Reuter's is £9, but private adrices quote £93. 5. The market closes steady at 8800.

MARINE INSURANCES.— With the exception of very small sales of Unious and China Traders. the latter at $95, we have no business to report. Cantons have ruled somewhat steadier after the issue of the report, and it is questionable whether shares, previously offering rather freely at $320, could now be obtained. The said repert recom mends a dividend (on 1905 account) of 820 per share, an addition to the reserve fund of $75,000, to the re-insurance fund of $34.112.4, a writing off of $25,000 from gold securities and the carrying forward to the 1906 account of $233.638.49. There has been no local business in the Northern insurance stocks, and our quotations are given on a Shangbai basis.
