SHARE REPORTS. HONGKONG, 28th September, 1906.-There has been a fair demand for some stocks during the week, but at rates which were not tempting to sellers, and but little business has resulted. At the time of writing the losses of the Com panies chiefly affected by the recent typhoon, have been more or less accurately ganged, and rates have settled down somewhat. With the uncertainty prevailing in the early part of the week it was almost impossible to transact busi- ness, except in Docks, and we have but few transactions to report.
BARES-Hongkong and Shanghais. A few shares have been placed at $800, and the market closes with further sellers at that rate. Na- tionals remain unchanged and without business. MARINE INSURANCES.— The market has ruled weak and we have but few sales to report. Unions have declined to $775. Yanglezes to $170 sellers (with sales), and Cantons have been on offer at 8320 without inducing buyers to come forward. China Traders continue steady to strong and a comparatively large lot has been put through at $95, the market closing with farther buyers. North Chinas remain unchanged and without any local business.
FIRE INSURANCES.— Hongkongs continue on offer at $327) without any business to report. Chinas are enquired for in a small way at 293, and a few small sales have been effected during the week.
SHIPPING.-Hongkong, Canton and Macaos have ruled very firm and only a very few of the many orders to buy have been executed. A few shares changed hands at $24 in the early part of the week, but the greater number of buyers have failed to secure any shares, and at time of closing offers at $251 fail to bring out any shares, The Fatahan has been success. fully refloated, and there are good hopes of the Kinshan shortly following suit. Indos have continued steady at $74 cash, but buyers con- tinue to rule the market, sellers still holding back. On time a few shares changed hands at $76 for December for the northern market. Douglases are easier at 846 with sellers, after the issue of the report, recommending a dividend of 5 per cent., and the writing off the balance of the earnings (811,809.45) from the Company's properties. Chins and Manilas continue neg- Îocted at $24, as aleo Star Ferrios at quotations. Sbells have been enquired for and have changed hands in small lots at 29s, the market closing firm with buyers probably at a little better rate. REFINERIES. China Sugars have ruled quite neglected, and the rate has declined to $157. Luzons remain unchanged and without
business.
MINING.-Raubs ruled weak in the early part of the week with sellers at $8; later, how- ever, the market firmed up a little and a demand at $81 met with no response. At time of closing shares could be placed at $81 to $84
DOCES, WHARVES AND GODOWNS.-Hong- kong and Whampso Docks improved in the early part of the week, and a fair business was put through at from $155 to $160; later how- ever, the market weakened, and the rate gradually fell without any apparent reason to $153, at which the market closes weak. Kow. loon Wharves fouad some sellers in the early part of the week at $93 and $93 and a few shares changed hands at those rates; buyers, however, ruled the market and at time of closing are willing to pay $91 to $941. Shanghai Docks have ruled easier and sales are reported from Shanghai at 11a, 104 cash; a few transactions have been put through locally at Tls. 107 and 106 for December. The market closes at Tls. 105. Hongkow Wharves uncbanged and with- out any local business to report.
|
LANDS, HOTELS, AND BUILDINGS.- With the exception of small sales of Humphreys at $11, we have no business to report under this beading. Hongkong Lands bave declined to $109, and Hotels are now on offer at $115.
COTTON MILLA-Laou Kung Mows have declined in Shangbai to Tls. 85, and Soyohees have improved to Tls. 3274. Hongkongs remain unchanged and without business.
MISCELLANEOUS. -Under this heading we have to report small sales of China Providente at $9.60, Fenwicks at $22, Electrics at $144, and Watsons at $13. Green Islands have declined to $21, and Ropes to $28, and Chins Borneos to $10, and closing with sellers. We have nothing else to report.
