CRAIGENGOWER CRICKET CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Craigengower Cricket Club was held at the matshed, Happy Valley, on Sept. 25th. Mr. W. D. Braidwood (president)" "presided, and there were also present Messrs. A. E. Asger, (Secretary,) 8. A. Ahmed, W. Allen, F. Baker, R. Basa, A. O. Brawn, B. B. Cooper, J. Fairholm E. Irving, L. E. Lammert, R. Pestonji, G. Rapp. L. A Rose, E. Roza, J. W. Stewart, J. Toppin, and L. Vincenot.

The PRESIDENT-Gentlemen, I understand the report has been ia your hands for some little time, and I presume we may look upon it as read. The few remarks I have to make will not detain you very long. We have reason to congratulate ourselves upon the past year's work. It was a fairly successful year although we did not take that place in the league we should like to have taken. We played 14 matches, won 7, lost four and drew five. A feature of last year was the matches arranged for the "A" team. I think this step was in the right direction as it encour- ages those members not quite so proficient in cricket as others. Mr. Basa beads the list for the batting average with 19 in 14 innings and he also made the highest score of 82 not out. Mr. E. Ford's bowling average of 7 was very satisfactory. ennis this year seemed to be entered into with great enthusiasm. I trust the match with the Ÿ.M.C.A. will be an annual event. Our position from a financial standpoint was also very satisfactory before the typhoon. You will see we had a credit balance of $168.70. Fortunately we did not suffer very much from the effects of the typhoon, but what we did suffer will help to reduce that credit balance, We all regret the death of Mr. E. R. Herton, a prominent cricketer and tennis player. He W&S an all round support to the Club. During the past year we had a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Belilios. Mr. Belilios was formerly a pupil of Victoria School whose home was Craigengower, and he was, I believe, the original treasurer of the Craigengower Cricket Club. were therefore all the more pleased to receive Mr. and Mrs. Belilios. I don't think

We

anything else calls for remark on my part. If any gentleman has anything to say the meeting is now open for expression of their opinion or aïticism.

There were

no questions concerning the report and accounts. The CHAIRMAN proposed its adoption. Mr. BRAWN seconded and the motion was carried.

mittee be instructed to arrange that every club must begin its league programme not later. “than November lat.

Mr. LIGHTFOOT seconded the motion, and pointed out that the reason the Kowloon club did not start their league matches earlier last season was because they had no ground.

Mr. BRAWN pointed out that last season опе of the clubs did not begin its league programme until December. He thought this was to be much deprecated because in the first place it took away the weekly records; in the second it gave the club an advantage of getting the members together to practice; and in the third it caused a block at the close of the season when there was a difficulty in finishing the programme. The twentieth annual mesting of the Hong- kong Football Club was held at the Hong- kong Hotel on Sept. 24th. Mr. Frank Browne also present Messrs. H. F. P. F. Jok, F. C. Kendall, A. B. Livesay, R. Miller, A. Morfey, C. M. Preshaw and S. M. Thorne.

The PRESIDENT-Gentlemen, the raport has been before you, and it is useless for me to say very much, because as you very well know the season has been a very good one. No less than number, and I think it is, at any rate, as many 44 matches were played. That is a very large

as we have played in any previous season. One very good feature about the matches was that don't think in any sesson have I seen such they were commenced very promptly, and I

cooperation on the part of players with their the latter in their work, and enabled them captains. This cooperation has greatly assisted

been the policy of the Club to provide as many to provide matches for players. It has always

the Shield competition the Clab got_further matches for as many players as possible. In

than it has done for many years. The Anal match was played in unfavourable weather conditions but nevertheless, after an intensely exciting game they were baaten by only two goals to nil. I hɔpe next year we shall be more successful. A pleasing feature last year was the visit of a team from Canton. I hope this will be an annual fixture, and that matches will take plao) either here or at Canton. The committ'e congratulated themselves on having a balance of 8506,14 that

w uld be available to & large extent to commence the season with, but on account of the typhoon the stand is com. pletely wrecked and the dressing room seriously damaged, so we are not going to have such a favourable start as we should have otherwise had. Then you will notice a slight deficit of $65.80 in the account of the Football Challenge Shield Committee. As regards that defloit, when WO come to minoei- laneous business, any member who...- may wish to make a recommendation will be able to do so.

The season has been a good one, and our thanks are da to our two captains for their efforts (hear, hear), Mr. Chard unfor tunately thinks it is time for him to retire (no). I am sure we don't think so, still he feels be would like to make room for someone else. I am glad to say Mr. Gray will continue. Our
