CHINA OVERLAND TRADE REPORT.

COMPANY.
SHARE REPORTS.. HONGKONG, 13th July, 1900.--There has been a little more movement in the market during the week, and a comparatively fair business has been put through. The transactions have been chiefly of an investing nature, and to some extent dependent on the dividend money shortly¦ Alhambra coming in. Rates have ruled fairly steady, and "bed rock" in many of our stocks appears to bave been reached. Exchange on London 9/13 T.T.; on Shanghai 721.

• BANKS. Hongkong and Shanghais have continued to rule firm and a demand at the improved rate of 88224, and later at $825 and 8830, has failed to bring any shares on the mar kat, the market closing firm at the last rate, ! China-Borneo Co.. The Corporation announces, through the local China Light & Po. Co. press, that subject to andit the directors propose | China Provident to pay a dividend for the half-year ending 30th June of 35, to place $750,000 to reserve, and ・ Cotton Mills-- to carry forward about $1.700,000. This satis- factory result of the half-year's working shows i an improvement on the corresponding period of last year.
Nationals remain unchanged and without business.
MARINE INSURANCES.-With the exception of sales of Yangtazes at 81722, we have nothing to report under this heading. Unions continue in request at $810, also China Traders, and the Certificates of the latter. Cantons remaio quiet at quotation and without business.
FIRE INSURANCES. Hongkongs have been placed during the week at 81325 and close in further demand at that rate. Chinas have been enquired for at 86, but with no shares forthcoming the rate closes at 8861 with no sellers.
SHIPPING.-Hongkong, Canton and Macaos have maintained their position, and boyers at 327 have ruled the market during the week. A fair number of shares have been placed, but the market closes with a further demand at that rate. Indos have found buyers at $75 cnin div. of $4.69.43, paid on the 10th instant, and later at 870 ex div.. the market closing steady at the latter raté. China Manilas remain neglected and unchanged. Douglases have further im- proved their position, and shares are now enquired for at $43 without bringing any Aellers on the market. Star Ferries and Shell Transports remain unchanged and without business.
REFINERIES.-We have nothing to report under this heading.
MINING. A few Raubs at $3 bave been placed during the week. Further than this we have no business to report.
DOCKS, WHARVES AND GODOWNS.-Hong- kong and Whampoa Docks continus neglected with sellers at $150, and we have no sales to report. Kowloon Wharves have further im- proved their position to 8106, after small sales at $1044 and Si(5), the market closing steady at the higher rate. Shanghai Docks improved in the early part of the week to Tls. 110 with buy-rs, and some business was transacted at that rate.

both locally and in Shanghai. At time of closing, however, rates come rather easier from Shangbai and shares are obtainable at Tls. 109, and possibly | Refineries-- at point less.
LANDS, HOTELS AND BUILDINGS.-Hong- kong Lands in the early part of the week 1uled weak, and sales were effected as low as $112. On the announcement, however, of an interim dividend of $34, and reports of a somewhat bet. ter working for the half-year, a small demand sprung up, and sales were made at $112 and $113, the market closing with buyers at $113. West Points have been negotiated during the week at $514 and $52. The Company announces an interim dividend of $2, an advance of 25 cents on the previous interim dividend. Hotels have further declined to $125, without sales. Humphreys are enquired for at $11, but we have heard of no sales. Shanghai Lande bare improved in the north to Tls. 112.
COTTON MILLS.-We give the latest quota- tions from Shanghai at foot for the Northern Mill. Hongkongs remain weak at $14 without business.
MISCELLANEOUS, -China Borneos continue in demand without inducing holders to part. China Providents have 'found buyers at $8,90 and $9 closing with further buyers at the latter ste. Dairy Farms have been placed at $164, Co nents at $284 and 8289, and Watsons at $18. We have nothing farther to report under this heading.

the week under review, and in consequence business has been very slack. The feature of the week has been a sharp fall in Shanghai Engineering & Dork Co. Shares on a declaration of Tis. 4 final dividend. Sterling Exchange is still high and as a result- sales of all the lunding stocks continne for remittances of proceeds to London! The T. T, rate to-day on London is 2/11. Banks.-Hongkong and Shanghai Bank. No business reported locally. Hongkong quotes $820 buyers and the London quotation is £92. 5s. Fire and Marine Insurance.
Yangtze Insurance Shares have changed hands at $175. No business reported in other Insurance Shares. Shipping.-Indos. Shares haye iwen dealt in at Ts. 57 for July, but the market closes weak, and probably not better than Tls, 55 could be got now for July shares. Docks and Wharves- Shanghai Dork & Engineering Co. Early in the week shares were dealt in at Tls. 113, and 112! July, and Tls, 116 December, after the dividend was made public, prices fell to Tls, 105 and 107 eash and July. Shanghai and Hongkew Wharves, Business has been done at Tls. 222 and 222; cash and shares have been dealt in at Tls. 227) September. Sugars.— In our last report comment- ing on a transaction which had been published, we made the price of Perak Sugars Tls. 80, but we now find that this was not the meaning of the quotation, The letters C. N. I. being simply added to insure that the buyer would receive the allotment of Kalumpong Rubber Co, Shares to which the old shares are entitled. The present quotation for old Peraks is Ts. 100. Mining.- Weihaiwei Golds. No business reported. Lands, -No business has been reported in these shares since the 14th instant, when the quotation was Tla, 110, Industrial -No business has been done in cotton shares, but Laou Kung Mows are wanted. Gas Co, Shares have found buyers at Tls. 103, and Shanghai Lee Co. at Tls. 27. Maats- chappij, &c., in Langkats. Business has been done at 118, 227 cash, Tls. 229 July, and Tis. 2321 September, with a steady market. Stores and Hotels.--Astor House Hotels have been dealt in at $32. Hotel des Colonies at Tls. 16) July and Tis 171 August. Weeks & Co. Shares are quoted at $20. Miscellaneous.--Shanghai Electrics have heen dealt in at $25. Loans and Debentures. No business reported. Shanghai Land 6 per cent. Debentures can be obtained at Tis. 9 and Muni- cipal 6 per cent. Debentures at Tls. 97.
