March 24, 1906:]
SHARE REPORTS.
HONGKONG, 23rd Maroh, 1908. We have nothing of any importance to report; the mar- ket remains featureless and inactive. Rates, however, in most osses rule steady, and buyers of some few stocks ornnot be satisfied; more divid- end money has been released during the week. but it appears to have been either absorbed or remitted home at the still ruling high rate of sterling exchange. Anyway it has caused no improvement in rates. Exchange on London 2/014, on Shanghai 711⁄2 nominal.
BANKS.-Hongkong and Shanghais, with a fall in the London rate to £87, 10s., have ruled quieter and the temporary firmness reported in our last has not been maintained. Shares have beed on offer during the week at 8855 without finding buyers, and it is probable that a some. what lower rate would bring out
sel'ers. Nationals remain steady at $40 and shares could probably be placed at that rate.
MARINE INSURANCES.-Unions remain un- changed and without business at $800, but close with probable sollers at $795. China Traders have changed hands at 964, and later at 96, clos- ing quiet at the latter rate. Cantons have found further buyers at $350 and close with buyers at that. North Chinas and Yaugtsse remain without any local business, and our quotations are taken from the last Shanghai circulars.

FIRE INSURANCES.-Hongkong Fires have ruled steady and lave changed hands in small 1ols at $300, closing steady at that rate. Fire ar still nquired for in a small way a $85 but no shares are available, and it is possible that a point higher might b、 paid w re any shares forthcoming. At the same time the demand is only a small one, and when it is! satisfied the rate is not likely to improv in the immediate future.
SHIPPING.-Hongkong, Canton and Macass have ruled steady to strong with a demand which has been practically unmet at $241 to 8243, and at time of closing the market is steady to strong at $244 to $244. Indo-Chinas have been placed to Shanghai at $93 and close fairly steady at that rate. Douglases continue in'demand at $10, but shares are still unavail- able. We have nothing else to report under this heating.
REFINERIES.-China Sugars show no signs of improvement and we have no business to report, the market closing weak at $190 or the dividend of $15 paid yesterday. Luzons remain unchanged but weak and without business at quotation.
