SILK.

HONGKONG WEEKLY PRESS AND

YARN.

Mr. P. Eduljee, in his report dated Hongkong, 12th January, says :-A fair business has been done throughout the past fortnight on the basis of late sales, the chief feature being the increased enquiry for favourite spinnings for No. 12s and a slight appreciation in values consequent on their scarcity, and it is estimated that nearly 6,000 bales have changed hands as particularized below. At the close the Native New Yoar festival influences are being felt, and during the coming fortnight, excepting some trifling "congratulatory purchases," we do not anticipate any business of importance. The market is steady and no change is expected to take place.

Messrs. A. R. Burkill & Sons' Silk Circular, dated Shanghai, December 28th, 1905, states: The home markets are strong, 12-11, for Gold Kiling is the London quotation. Raw Silk.— Since the date of our last issue business has been more or less at a standstill, the local disturbances and usual holidays being partially accountable for this state of things. Holders are generally firm and the near approach of China. New Year. does not seem to disturb them. Yellow Silk.- The market is quiet. Steam Filatures.-Any fine sizes in good chops are promptly secured and medium grade 9-11 also find ready buyers. Hand Filatures.-Are neglected. Waste Silk.--- Since the considerable business reported in our last Circular of the 14th Dec., there have been further settlements of about 300 piculs Long Honan Waste at Tis. 75 for whole bales. Tls. 108 has been paid for about 100 piculs of Filature Long Waste 80 per cent. o. 1, and 20 per cent. No. 2., and a small business has been done inquiry for Indian descriptions by native dealers, Coarse White Gum No. 1 at Tls. 92. The market is

now exceedingly quiet, having scarcely recovered 8.8 yet from the very disturbing

influences mentioned above.
