Inhabitants of Shanghai, that may be known to all the world.
Notification to the Inhabitants of Shanghai.
The High Officers Commanding the Combined Forces, acknowledge the receipt of the communication from the Inhabitants of Shanghai delivered by Chekiang & Shanghai, &c., &c.,
in which they solicit permission to rest and resume their avocations on payment of the sum of five hundred thousand dollars by certain instalments.
The High Officers in reply can but refer the Inhabitants to their former notifications.
They demanded the Sum of One Million of Dollars and not occupying the forts or molest them.
They now repeat that they are not disposed to alter those terms, until the forts on the Woosung River are open to the just Government.
