HỌNGKING, 6th October, 1905.-Business, is practically at a standstill, the market having apparently arrived at a "marking time" stage with operators, and even investors setting on the fence awaiting the first depisive sign of that anticipated improvement in things. generally which has been almost universally expected after the late, declaration of peace, but which somehow, seems to hang fire.

QUOTATIONS,
Alhambra Banks-
REFINERIES. - China Sugars continue out of favour and unaccountably weak at $229, the earnings for August are reported as being very good, but from all accounts September does not promise so well. A slack month or two, however, seems to be scarcely sufficient to account for the temporary weakness, which most likely is due to the tightness of money, and the slackness of the market generally. Luzons have found buyers at $15), and later at $15, closing steady at the latter rate.
