HONGKONG, 23rd June, 1905.- With the exception of a demand for Banks, China Traders and Raubs at an h gher rate than quoted last week, and for Docks at the reduced rate of $192, the market bas continued to be a selling one, and rates generally have further declined, although not to any great extent. The continued tightness of money among the Chinese is one of the chief factors in the dul- ness we have still to report.

Hongkong and Shanghais have further improved to $807 with buyers, after an unsatisfied small demand at $805. Shares appear to be very scarce and the few which are now held in China are nearly all in the hands of investors; share on the China Register have for some time past been gradually going into the bands of home investors, and the pro- cuss appears to be still proceeding. The latest London quotation by Reuter is £84. 10s. Od. Market oloses firm. Nationals remain uuchang-Hongkong & C. Gas.. ed and without business.
MARINE INSURANCES. — Unions have been placed in small lots at $695 and $6924, and an exceptionally small sale has been effected at $607 for August delivery. Cantons have ruled very quiet, and with pressure from Chinese holders, a forced sale has been made at $312}; market closes stealy at $317). China Traders. With a continuation of the demand at $65, and in the absence of forthcoming sha: es, the market gradually improved to $70 with small sales; the demand however at time of closing is still greater than the supply, and the rate looks as though it would be maintained or even improve. There are many vague rumours for the sudden favour extended to this stock; but if there is any ex- ceptional reason, beyond the likelihood of a better result of the working of the Company for the financial year ended 30th Aprik" the secret is well kept, and nothing is known to the man in the street, North Chinas and Yangtszes remain unchanged and without business.
FIRE INSURANCES.-Hongkongs have been placed at 8300, but no more are obtainable at Chinas are on offer, at 887 but that råte.

MINING.-Raubs have-advanced to $51 with
buyers and no shares available, holders refusing to part now that prospects are reported brighter for the deep level boringa.
LOCKS, WHARVES, AND GODOWNS.-Hog- Long and Whampoa Docks have been placed as low as $19 for the settlements the sale in all probability being a forced one. Several buyers, however, came into the market at that rate and the rate gradually recovered to $192, at which
