SHARE REPORTS.
HONGKONG. 19th May, 1905.-The_market has ruled almost featureless, and we have no transactions of any importance to report. Rates | continue to be fairly well maintained and in some cases show considerable strength.
BANKS.-Hogkong and Shanghais. Small sales have beon effected at $795 and later at 87971, market closing steady at $795 to $7974. The London rate remains unchanged at £80 Nationals continue in request at $37, but we have no males to report.
MARINE INSURANCES.—Unions are on offer and without business at 8695. China Traders and Cantons are in donand at $59 and $310 re- spectively, but the enhanced values do not appear to bring any shares on the market. Ya gtszes and North Chinas have been without local business, and quotations are the latest ones from Shanghai.
FIRE INSURANCES.-Hongkong Fires ruled during the early part of the week with sales and sellers at $302), and a fair number of shares changed hand- at that rate. Later, however, with sellers still ruling the market the rate fell to
$300, at which it closes with sellers. Chine Fires are enquired for at $86, but holders do not seem willing to pa t.
SHIPPING.-Hongkong, Canton and Macao Steamboats, after sales at $263 have been placed at 327 and a few more shares are wanted at that rate. Indo-Chinas daring the early part of the week ruled strong at $125, and a fair number of shares were placed at that and equivalent rates forward, chiefly at $127 for June, $123 July and $129 for August. Later, however, the market weakened somewhat and at time of closing sales are report d at $126 for June and $127 for July, while the cash rate is quiet at $125 with sellers. China-Manils and Douglases are enquired for in a sm Il way at quotations. Shells have im- proved to 23/- locally, and are quoted 23/- on the London market. Star Ferries are quiet at quotations with no sales to report.
REFINERIES. China Sugars remim un- accountably neglected, the shadow of forward settlements, although very much reduced, still having a depressing effect on the market; as a matter of fact the settlements forward are comparatively not by any means heavy, and as there has been very few purchases on time lately, the depressing effect must as a natural sequence gradually be removed from the market. We have no business to report in this stock, the market c'oses quiet t $223. Luzons are enquired for at the increased rate of $30, but no shares ap- pear to be available.
MINING. No change or business to report
DOCKS, WHARVES, AND GODOWNS.-Hong- kong and Whampoa Docks bave ruled very quiet with small sales at $203, but buyers rule the market at that rate. The course of the market will be ruled in the immediate future by the chances of floating the French Cruiser Kowloon Wharves and New Amoy Sully. Docks remain neglected at $105, without sales to report. Farnhams have advanced to Tls. 159 with local sales, but the latest Shanghai quotation is $158.
LANDS, HOTELS, AND BUILDINGS.-Hong- kong Lands continue quiet and the rate bas declined to $125; a sale is reported at $124. Hongkong Hotels continue in favour at $145, but few shares are obtainable.
