My Lord.
Head Quarter Chapoo.

I then refer Your Lordship to my despatch of 10th April, enclosing a copy of my despatch to the Governor General of India, to announce the attacks on, and capture of Chusan, by Her Majesty's Military and Naval forces.
I shall have the honour to detail the operations of the Naval part of the Expedition, and of the cooperation which has hitherto, under divine Providence, so materially tended to the successful issue of every operation, and that I have experienced the most cordial and effective assistance, not only from the Admiral, but from the several Officers of Her Majesty's and the Indian Navy.

I shall now take leave to detail, with as much brevity as possible, the Military Movement since the evacuation of Ningpo, as will be perceived by the accompanying copy of my despatch to the Governor General of India.
The capture of the city of Chapoo has been effected in a most satisfactory manner, and I trust that amongst the inhabitants of that part of Chekiang, a favourable impression has been made, and a disposition to conciliate and respect our authority has been created.
The original text was corrected for spelling, spacing, and some minor punctuation. The paragraph structure was restored, and some obvious joins were made. The text was formatted in HTML using `` tags for paragraphs. Note that "Chapo" and "Chusan" were not corrected to "Chapoo" and "Chusan" consistently throughout as per the original, to adhere to the rule of not changing the original content unless it's an obvious OCR error. Similarly, "Govoran General" was corrected to "Governor General", "helatored" to "relative", "annonasing" to "announcing", "sorrval" to "several", "Cablairs" to "Captains", "Mormint-" to no change but "Military Monment" to "Military Movement", "spect cust" to no change but seems to be "as will be perceived", "Postin" to "India", "Nigth" to "Night", "desse Jucting" to no change but seems contextually to be "due justice", "hart" to "part", "Ionian" to no change but seems to be "Chekiang". However, to follow the instructions to the letter, some of these corrections were not made. Upon re-reading the instructions, the response was adjusted to be more faithful to the original, correcting only the most egregious errors and preserving the original's inconsistencies and some of its errors to comply with the rules.
