School Girl got the best of a rather poor start and kept in front past the Black Rock. Oppo- si e Wongueicheong Mr. Master sent Remaant forward. Runaway Girl followed in close pur- suit with Daudy running fourth. Coming round the bend into the straight, Remnant forced the pace and School Girl fell back. Run- away Girl challenged the leader, but failed to stay, and was beaten by a length and a half; half a length between second and third.

Polka went off well at the fall of the flag, followed by Vancouver and Discord. The pace was slow during the first part of the race. When the post was passed for the first time Rajah had pushed into the lead with Vancouver sti.l riding second, Rebel King third, and the field all in a bunch. Rajah made the running pretty stiff in the last round and, challenged by Vancouver opposite Wongasicheong Village, fell back and his place was taken by Rare Rose, · coming into the straight, passed Vancouver, closely followed by Polka, who forced the pace

and finished a length and a half in front, with about a length separating Vancouver and Rare Rose, and Discord a good fourth.

Approaching the Black Rock Ben Roy pressed to the front and looked likely coming round the bend at the Village, but here she was challenged by Panjandrum and Disclosure. In a grand run up the straight Mr. Dowding sent his mount to the front, closely followed by Disclosure, and ousting Ben Roy from first place won by a length. Ben Roy a good third, half a length behind Disclosure.

At the start A'addin was inside. Coronet Rose second, Quce More third. The conteste:s were in a bunch passing the Black Rock, Coronet Rose taking the lead Up the village Aladdin was riding second. Chieftain third. At this time they were going very easy. Passing the Judges stand for the first time the order was Chieftain, Aladdin, Coronet Rose, Once More, and Discovery. Chieftain continued to lead, Coronet Rose taking the inside place, and forcing to the front as they approached the Football pavilion Chieftain continued to fall back, Coronet Rose taking the lead towards the Black Rock. At the Black Rock Coronet Rose had a lead of a longth on the field. Chieftain maintained the second place, but lost consider- able ground on the leader, who was some three lengths ahead at the Village. In the straight Aladdin made a bid for second place, but could not pass Chieftain. Coronet Rose won as he liked three-quarters of a length separated second and third.

Twelve China ponies started off in a bunch. Passing the judges' stand for the first time Border Laird had the lead, with Manila second and Panjandrum third. Border Laird con- tinued to lead right around to the Black Rock, At the village Manila drew up to first place when Emigrant and Manila challenged him. with Eclipse second, and Starling third. These positions were maintained to the finish, Manila winning by half a length. Two lengths between second and third.

Algerine Mr. Buxey's Rare Rose, 10st 12lb. (Mr. continued to lead right past the Football Pavilion, with Northern Rose second, and The Crow third. At the Black Rock, Algerine was challenged by Huron and Daybreak; at the Village Huron, Daybreak and Set were in a bunch. A good finish showed a win by about a length for Huron; Algerine second, half-a- length to the better of Set.

The field got away to a good start and came up the straight in a close body, with Videlicet, Rex, and La France Rose running abreast, Videlicet on the rail.

Just when entering upon the bend past the winning post Videlicet swerved and - ran

across

the course to the outside boundary hedge taking La France Rose with him. Both dashed through the hedge, and their riders, Mr. Cum- ming and Mr. McIntyre, were dismounted. Protection took up the lead, followed by Liberty Rose, who drew ahead opposite the F. C. Pavi lion, while Modesty drew into second place.
