SHARE REPORTS. HONGKONG, 1st May, 1903:-During the past week our market has been disturbed by the violent Anctuations of sterling exchange and the approach of the April settlement, which passed off satisfactorily yesterday, and rates have ruled somewhat erratic. A fairly good business has, however, been done at current quotations.

BANKS.-Hongkong and thanghais after sales at $680 fell rapidly to $665 without find- ing buyers, but as quickly recovered to $675, at which the latest fransaction is reported, with probable further buyers at the rate. London remains unchanged at £63.

Nationals are unaltered and without business.

MARINE INSURANCE- Unions continue quiet with sellers at 2535. Clina Traders have small buyers at $6', and Yang(szes at $128. North Chinas have sold, and are still enquired for at Tls. 200. Cantons have sold and are in further request at $1674,

FIRE INSURANCES.-Hongkongs are quiet at $307 after sales at the rate. Chinas are wanted at $83.

SHIPPING.-Hongkong, Canton and Macaos are slightly easier with sales and some sellers at $381. Iado-Chinas are quiet at $108. China and Manilas have improved to $26 and are in demand at this figure. Douglases have declined to $14 after sales at $42. Elar Ferries continue, in request at $27 (old) and $153. (new). Shell Transports can be placed at the improved rate of £1 68. 6d.

REFINERIES. -China Sugars have been booked at $110 and $111, and close slightly easier with a small parcel obtainable at $110. Luzons are a changed at $12) nominal.
