FOOTBALL.
The Bougkong Football Club met a team from the Glory at Happy Valley on Saturday last, playing under Rugby rules. The weather was fine, and the spectators, were numerous, amongst thos) in the stand bein H.E. the Governor,
Not all the Club's team were punctually on the ground. and in consequence the start was delayed. With the arrival of the late ones came the referee's call, and the game commenced. It was a hard struggle on both sides, but victory went to neither, the result bing a draw- nothing scored. From a spectator's point of : view the match was not so interesting as that the previous week between the Club and the Ocean, being played throughout almost entirely by the forwards of the opposing 'sides.
In this branch of the game
the Glory forwards, with their good combina tion, appeared to much better advantage than did any other team the Club has had to face this season. Their footwork in the loose brought them through with the ball time and again. The Club in this respect appeared to ba particularly weak, owing to the slown ss of their forw.rls in coming round. deficiency was perhaps chiefly duy to want This of condition, but it threw by far too much defensive work on the Club's outsides.
With
scrum
r gard to individnal play, the best man on the field was Hallifax, whose brilliant efforts were conspicuous all through the game, in spite of the marked attention paid him by the Glory for- wards. Of the Glorys, Crossmann made au impression by his splendid kicking, and the forwards, headed by Morris and Turle, played well togelber, whilst outside the Sherbrooke, Crossmann Sartorins, and the fall back, did equally well. With the excep- tion of the one weakness already me .tioned, the Club showed up to advantago. Their forwards wiked hard and skilfully. Hallett played a plucky game; as a half-back, however, he is inclined to stick to the ball too long. Jordan, in the same capacity, ably partnered Hallett, and made one or two very good runs, but unfortunately for his side be did not get rid of the ball before he was collared. Pearce, at threequarter back, contributed bis usual hard game especially on the defensive side, where he saved continually. A little more combined play by the forwards and sme running and passing practices for the cutxidos should soon work the Club team into a very hot lot
