Only one boat turned up for this event- from the Torpedo Dapôt--and when the crew had rowed over the course they were awarded the race.

A farcical raen, so for as the two Pereiras were concerned. J. M. hid to be shouted at repeate l'y from the starter's launch to keep his water and not run foul of Witchell, who lost ground in his endeavours to avoid a collision. A. M. steered an equally erratic course, but as he conducted bis op rations in open water no one but himself suff red. Holmes, who rowed well throughout, won by eight lengths. Time, 5 min. 56 secs.

course, it was impossible for a time to ac urately judge who of the two was lead ng, and by how much, bat Kobler, pulling only about 20 to the minule, succeeded in establishing a lead which placed Kennett right out of the race. The latter was placed at a further disadvantage by the heavy wash of the Hercules, which ran along the margin of the cours at fail spoed. Kobler won casily. Kennett ultimately going out of the course. Time, 11 mia. 13 sɔcs.

A good start, but it became at once evident that the two boats of the Hongkong Boat Club were the best manned. No. 2 fell off and was

early out of the race. No. 3 was excellently steered by Caldwell, but was unable to take the lead from No. 1. which got in ahead nicely. Won by 1 lengths.

THIRD RACE.

HAREOUR POLICE.-Open to the Chinese members of the Harbour Police. To be rowed in the service boats. Distance, one mile. Eufrance, 50 cents. First prize, $10. Second prize, $4. Three boats to start for two prizes.

1-Station No. 1, Boat No. 3, Water Police. 2-Station No. 3, Boat No. 2, Water Police. 3-Station No. 2, Bart No. 2, Water Police.

A fie start and a splendil race, the boats keeping bow and bow for ne rly half the course. No. 1 and No. 3 then established a slight lead from No. 2, which appeared to be the heaviest of the three boats, and dropped out at the finish. No. 3 spurted when nearing the flagship, but had to be content with second place. Timo, 10 min, Won by half a length.

FOURTH RACE,

TUB SCULLING,-(lub sculling boats.) Dis- tance, half mile. Entrance $1. To be rowed in boats the property of the Victoria Recreation Club and Hongkong Boat Club.

The race was half-an-hour late in starting, regrettable to state, and when the boats mado an appearance further time was lost in getting them to live up. The fire got off to a poor start; the R. A. boat goon dropped astern, their chances were absolutely nil. The rase and although the crew made a spurt later ou,

resolved itself into one between the two boats Alves running about lovel for third place. of the Hongkong Boat Club, Herbst and Bingay's crew won by six lengths in spite of the ground they lost by the erratic steering of Grant, the coxswain. Time, 7 min. 13 secs.

BIXTH RACE.

MEN-OF-WAR'S CUTTERS. The boats to be approved and handicapped if necessary by the Committee. Distance, one mile. Time allowed for cars, 8 seconds per oar. Four boats must start for two prizes. Entranco. 81. First prize, $15; scoud priz› $5. (Po t entries). Service oars and conditions.

A crew from the Ocean was the only one to face the starter, and as in the first race, they were allowed to row over for the prize.

The winning boat got away at the start, and, although challenged by A. A. Alves's crow, kept a plucky lead all the way, and won by three lengths. Time, 7 min. 59 secs,

NINTH RACE.

SNAKE BOATS.-Open to Chinese snake boats. Distance, one mile. 1st prize, $10; 2nd prize, $5. Eight boats to start for 2 prizes. 1 Station No. 7, Yau Ho Yellow and Black.
