It is essential to ta'e into account the district well above Bowen Road in all the operations fr improvement of the health of MacDonnel R ad, in which as well as in Kennedy Road balow it, malaria is severely previl nt. Ctherwise the presence of such swaras of anople'es as I found in the lar av s ago just above Bowen Road will nu lify the efforts made on the slightly lower level.
5. The co-operation of the military auʼho- rities in the matter of dealing with exten- sive water puddles on military land just below Kennedy Road is necessary to any success in the direction indicated. These shou'd be c'e irad away by adequito drain iga,
6. The work of destruction of the larvae and the pools in which they da or may be sad should embrace every water puddle on private property as well as on the public road; aud iu the nullahs. The total number of such coll. e- tions of water is not large, and they can be quite adequately dealt with, if the work ba done systematically. Many can be e. adiratel: o'hers can be given a smoo h conc.ete surfaci for water to flow over and away; and tho remainder would require to be doushed ones a. week with kerosene oil.

A letter was read from the 1 ongkong Steam Laundry requesting a further extension of forty days to comply with a smoke nuisance notice.
Col. Hughes miunted: The smoke from the laundry is an intolerable nuisance to the number of Europeans frequenting Kunedy's stables. It is also detriment 1 to the health of the numbers if valuabl· horse; and their Chinese attendants. In my opinion four months was a very liberal period to allow for improvement. The chimney that carries this smoke is very much too low. I am against granting a further respite unless this chiungy is carried up thirty or forty feet hig'ar, which can onsily be done, and which wil abate the nuisance to some extent."
Ou the motion of the PRESIDENT soconded by Mr. BADELEY, it was agreed to grant the extension until the chimney ba heightened,
