This is a record of which any man may justly be proud and sets an example of consistent usefulness which might well be emulated by other members of the Club.

'There was a variation in the amount of wasted time on Saturday, the usual 45 to 50 minutes being prolonged to 1 hour and 10 minutes! Another quarter of an hour was wasted after tiffiu and, altogether, of the 5 hours available for play. only 3 hours and 40 minutes were made use of. Owing, however, to the weakness of the "Plains" batting this proved to be sufficient and at 4,50 the “ Hills " had gained a substantial victory by two wickets and 90 runs. Ward won the toss--as usual- and sent in Wynne and Venables to face the bowling of Toulmin and Mahon. The Major made 10 before being dismissed but Fawcett, who followed him, was clean bowled without scoring. Then began Hayhurst's long innings which was to last natil Ward declared the innings closed at 3.10 with the total at 191 for 8 wickets. Of the o her batsmen, Venables was

The ground fielding, too, was bad, even Smith kept Turner failing in this respect. wicket well and Toulmin bowled well under very With only 1 hour and trying circumstances, 25 minutes left for play, it seemed quite likely that the "Plains" would save the game and, of course, it was also possible for them to make At no time, however, did they look

Mahou's 21 was useful bat his new style of play does not seem to suit his peculiar temperament.
