The Engineers' goal narrowly escaped disaster, Graham just missing the net with a low ball from close quarters. The gamo was being played mostly in Engineer territory, and Norton-Kyshe, lying off-side (although the fact escaped the referee's notice), was baffled in an effort to find the not. He was guilty of the same irregularity again, and was warned by Lowe; the referee's whistle was the next in timation that the player was violating the rules. Clarke, who was absent during the first half, arrived in time to lend a hand for the Club in the second. A minute or so from the re-start Graham shot for goal, and had the satisfaction of seeing Danby, with a neat header, score the opening goal of the match. Widdows stopped a fine dropping shot from Lowe (who had taken Norton-Kyshe under his care on the right wing), and was relieved from respon sibility immediately afterwards through Clark, who had the goal at his being given off-side. Pearson, with an absolutely open goal, failed to score-only one, however, of many flukes on both sides. The game was a very poor one, and ended in a win for the Club by two goals to nil.

to improve this slight advantage they almost found the net a few moments afterwards. Encour ged to greater efforts by the shouts of the spectators, both teams went at it with a will, and the excitement ran to a high pitch when Jones, who was playing a splendid game, grazed the post with a cross shot. Pugh topped "A" Co.'s goal a few moments later, but this effort was capp almost immediately by Andrews, who scored the goal which settled the result of the match. He got the ball during a scrimmage in "H" Co.'s territory at goal, and had no difficulty in finding the net. Towards the finish the inferiority of the losing team's forwards became apparent, their passes

The result, 1—0), is a fair representation of the game, and there can be no doubt that the better tam won.

A Chinese woman committed suicide in her house at 154, Market Street, Hunghom, by drinking opium. This is a favourite form of self-destruction amongst natives, as there are no accompanying pains, the person falling into a deep sleep in which death supervenes. Jealousy is said to have been responsible for the act.”

After a stay of several months in Hongkong,. Mr. Sixto Lopez left on 26th ult. for America by the 's.s. Athenian. Despite the tirades which the States, and especially the Manila · newspapers, have published against him, Mr. Lopez has gained nothing but the highest esteem among those who were privileged to be of his ac- quaintance during his stay in the Colony, both for his unassuming ways and, his invariable gen- tlemanliness and courtesy. He has, of course, been prevented from returning to the Philip- pines by the declared intention of the U.S authorities to arrest him unless he took the oath of allegiance. Mr. Lopez will be accom- panied by Mr. T. T. Patterson, his private secretary, who also leaves many friends behind him in Hongkong.
