CLUB ASSOCIATION TEAM e. ChÚB RUGBY
TEAM.
These teams met at Happy Valley on the 10th inst. in an Association holiday fixture. The teams were:--
Association-Kew; Forrest and Worcester; Jenkins, Bonnar, and Howard; Cox, Loe, Graham. Edwards, and Kyshe.
Rugby-Wilson; Russell and Johnson; Pierce, Hallifax. and Sandford; Robertson, Jordan, McMurtrie, Danby and Clarke.
Referee-Mr. F. Browne.
The opening passages of the game were fast and very spirited. Before many minutes had passed the Association team had got to close quarters with the Rugby defence and as the result of a scrimmage in front of goal a soft shot was sent in against Wilson, who let it slip through, between his hands and the post. From the centre kick McMurtrie led his front rauk
up the field and had
a shot at an opeu gos! but drove right into Kew's hands. Not long afterwards be succeeded in scoring with a swift slanting shot. Play continued fast. The next point was a splendid goal by Jenkins, who carried the ball down the field himself, and beat Wilson with a long shot. There was no further scoring in the first half. The second half was very hotly contested, the Rugby team drawing level close on time through a hard kick-in by Me- Murtrio. The game lasted 90 minutes.
!
Full time score-Association team, 2 goals; Rugby team, 2 goals.

CHINA OVERLAND TRADE REPORT.
which is an entirely new one in the Colony, has been organised with the object of establishing a club which shall hold an annual athletic meet- ing every year for the purpose of promoting that healthy rivalry in sport so desirable in a Colony such as Hongkong, where the community hás to depend so greatly on itself for the rastimes that go to add enjoyment to existence. The programme was an attractive one of twelve events, including bicycle, flat, and hurdle races,. and although the attendance, as has been said. was not large, the onlookers made up in enthu. siam what they lacked in numbers. The interval between each event was brief, but was pleasantly whiled away by the excellent performances f the band of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers; in the grounds, too. a couple of amateur clowns, grotesquely attired, contributed their quota to the general scheme for the entertainment of the spectators and the passing of a pleasant after- noon. The prizes were displayed on a table placed on the field, and made au extremely handsome appearance: they were presented to the successful competitors at the close of the sports by Mr. J. H. Stewart-Lockhart, whose services were recognised by a vote of thanks.

PROPOSED NEW ATHLETIC CLUB.
In our report of the Hongkong Amateur Athletic Sports at Quarry Bay we do not deal at any length with the circumstances responsible for the holding of a fixture that promises to mark a new and very important era in the history of athleticism in the Colony, For no apparent reason, out-door sports in past years have been neglected so much that nowa. days their existence is only marked by an occasional gathering at Happy Valley, the annual New Year fixture of the Taikon Club, and the galas held once or twice during the year in con- nection with the Victoria Recreation Club. These meetings are always interesting, but their programme of events never cover a sufficiently wide field, and there is allowed to lie fallow a

With the first attempt to stitute a club, overtures were made to the Go- vernment for the possession of a piece of land for the purposes of the new body, and a slice of the new Wongneichong Recreation Grounds was granted. This ground, however, was never claimed, and the V.R.C. have meantime been exercising their privilege to use it by holding occasional sports thereon. Now that the latest scheme for the development of sport in the colony has assumed tangible shape, it is pro- posed to at once set about the regaining of
