Mr. P. Eduljee says in his Report, dated Hong- Kong, 15th October.-Demand from the country still holds off, there being little or no inpuiry ex- cept for the small wants of the city. A trifling hand to mouth business has consequently to be noticed at unchanged prices except in cases of specially desired tickets, which have fetched 50 cents, to a dollar per bale higher owing to their searcity. Twenties have been practically neg- lected, the bulk of the small business done being in Tens and Sixteens. The tightness of money combined with the prolonged draught in the con- suming districts precludes the possibility of any improvement taking place in the near future, and we close with a quiet and unsteady market. Ro- ceipts during the interval have overtaken the off- takes and our stocks show a substantial increase on last estimate.

The enquiry for Shanghai and the Northern Ports shows signs of abatement, and latest telegrams from these places make those markets dull and quiet.

The products of our local Mill are steadily growing into favour with native dealers,, and the demand for both spot cargo and forward delivery is keen at much higher and firmer prices, say $961 for No. 108. and $983 for No. 12s., spot cargo, and $944 and 963 respectively for Nos 10s. and 128., for delivery within 6 to 8 weeks, at which sales of about 800 bales have transpired.

Japanese Yarn:-There is no change in the continued quietness of this thread and the dullness has been more pronounced owing to unfavourable advices from Tonquin, the principal outlet for these spinnings. Quotations are all nominal.

Raw Cotton:-In sympathy with the advance on the other side, our local market for Indian staple firmed up at the beginning of the interval and all descriptions were quoted higher. Super- fine machine ginned Bengal was in good demand and firmly held, and a choice parcel was readily taken at $25. Total business of the fortnight amounted to 750 bales to from $22} to $25, with an estimated unsold stock of about 1,000 bales on the market. The market is bare of Chinese descriptions. Reports of serious damage to the new crop Fave Feen confirmed. Quotations are Bengal $20 to 25 and China 327 to $80.
