Let us aid each other in pre- serving the peace and integrity of the Far East. Another Canton passenger-boat has met with a sad mishap, and over a score of persons have lost their lives thereby. She was laden with passengers, some of whom were going to Ping Chow and others ou grave-worshipping business. When the latter place was reached the pas sengers en bloc rushed to one side, and nearly capsized the craft. As it was nearly four score were thrown in the water, and one score at least were drowned, notwithstanding that a number of boats put out to the rescue.
It appears from Chinese reports that a certain treasury in Peking, known as the Spoils and Fines Treasury, which escaped the attention of the Allies, contained over 591,550 taels. The guards put there by the Chinese made off with over 4,000 of it when they were discovered, Prince Ching at once had the money removed to safer quarters in the office of Board of Ro. venue Treasury outside the Au Ti gate, and the -offenders have been handed over to the Board of
Punishments.
