On Thursday evening, the 14th ult.; soon after darkness had set in, the Harbour of Bombay was the scene of one of the most exciting incidents which have taken place in its history, and which resulted in the sinking of the German East African Company's pas sanger steamer Setos. She had collided with the 8.8. Daghestan, who at the time of the accident was carrying 171 passengers, principally natives, but owing to the skill and coolness displayed by the officers on board no lives were lost, though for a time, in spite of the nearness of the shore, all but those actually working the vessel were

The remainder of the passengers soon followed, and ultimately even the mails and baggage were brought ashors. The Daghestan is a vessel ohartered by the British India Company, and commanded by (aptain Littlehales. She was obliged to return to the harbour with her bows severely damaged on the starboard side and the forepeak full of water. The Setos meanwhile began to settle down, and at 3 o'clock, when all hands had left, sank in ab 30-feet of water. Until 2 o'clock efforts were made to keep her afloat, but these were found to be futile. She has now heeled over, and lies near the middle ground on her side, her bridge and portions of her upper structure just showing at low tide.-Times of India.

An excellent opportunity will be present ed to curio-buyers to-day, when at 2 p.m. Mr. George Lammert will sell by public auction a magnificent collection of Chinese curios. We have had the opportunity of in- specting the curios, which are now on view, and as a collection it is one of the best to be put up for auction for many years past. As some of the articles bear marks, and are fashion- ed in a manner known to the initiated to be for Imperial use alone, it is possible that many of the curios formed part of the loot taken from the palace at Peking. The collection is a large and varied one, and comprises embroidered cloths and clothes, all kind of vases, carved Buddhas, drinking vessels, pipes, incense-burners, screens, China plates, samshu and tea cups, etc. We understand the articles will be sold without reserve and a good attendance of buyers will no doubt be present.
