The latter made the mistake of carrying on into the mau- of-war anchorage and at North Point was nearly last. The Bonito, sailing splendidly in the fresh breeze, was pulling out a long lead on the Iris, which was becond. On nearing, the mark, however, the wind died away to a mere flicker, and Alannah, which is a wonder in a light air and was assisted by a lucky finke of wind shot away from Iris and rounded the mark just astern of Bonito,_with_Chantic- leer not far behind, then Iris and Maid Marian, with Erica last. On the round down to Kow- loon Rock Alannah and Chanticleer passed Boni- to, which however had again worked into first place. shortly after passing the Channel Rocks. Here again the wind was very paltry, and Bonito, Iris, Chanticleer, and Doreen, working inshore to avoid the tide, lost considerably on the other three, who got far more wind outside, the result being that Alannah rounded the mark about two A fourth match has been played at Amoy be minutes ahead of Bonito, the two Payne-design-tween teams representing the above. In the second class we do not know much about what occurred, except that the old Sybil woke up in the first round and beat the Payne (as she ought), but collapsed in the second round. The Meteor was unable to give her time to Dart or Poyne and only saved her one mark from Sybil by 11 seconds. What has happened to the Ladybird? In the hands of Captain Hastings she was just as good as Dart or Payne, but now she does not seem able to get
near them.
They finished as below :—

Mr. Henry Dallas and his large troupe arrived in Hongkong by the steamer Sachsen on the 23rd inst., afterwards proceeding to Shanghai to fulfil a month's engagement there, after which we may expect them in Hongkong, when Mr. Dal- las will stage some of the latest London successes. The operation of righting the dredger Canton River, the details of which we gave in our issue of the 18th inst., concluded with entire suécess on that date. The dredger assumed an up- right position at 9.10 a.m., among those present to watch being H.E. the Governor. It now remains to float her, but this task will not offer the same difficulty as that of turning her and may be accomplished within the week. An officer of H.M.8. Terrible is superintending the work, and coffer-dams are being constructed, two being now ready.

We have been requested to invite subscrip. tions for the widow and four children of the schoolmaster Yeung Ku Wan, who was mur- dered in his schoolroom in Gage Street on the 10th instant. They have been left totally with- out support, and some friends of the deceased O have already contributed $105, to be used for 12 the support of the family as required. This sum has been placed in our hands, and we shall be glad to receive any subscriptions which may be sent and to see that they are used as may be required for the benefit of the widow and children. We think this is a case that one of the numerous missionary societies, or native benevolent associations, might take up.
