400.21 The CHAIRMAN said-The objects of the resolutions, which have just been 455.47 are simply these, first, to turn the present 1,092.59 $125 share into two and a half. shares 1,229.03 of $50 each, and, secondly, to obtain 1,766.34

power to convert the present so-called reserve 7,444.55

563.50 of $900,000 (which is really capital, having 2,249.07 been sunk in the company's business and not

71.49 separately invested as it should be if it were 2,853.02 a real reserve fund) into actual capital. 1,455.54 This with $37,500 taken from present profits 120,000.08

will ra se the capital to $2,500,000 divided 1,351.96 into 50,000 shares of $50 each, equal to four 297.32 new. $50 shares for every one old $125 share. 42,874.99 I think you will all agree that, this will be an 13,235.70

improvement and will state the capital in a 8,470.90 12,000 05 simpler and more easily handled form than 13,047.17 presont. A suggestion was made that the 9,629.40 shares should be reduced to eight shares of 4,947.25 $25 each instead of four of $50, but the line 4,054.99 had to be drawn somewhere and we did not

681.78

feel justified in making the shares too small. 3,000.00 1,134.04

We, therefore, recommend $50 as the limit. I 293 19 now propose the adoption of the first resolution. G01.77 Mf. SHARP seconded, and the motion was

carried. $390,215.97

On New Year's Day, 1901, a match was played Cricket Club and Kowloon. The game was

a team representing the Hongkong

fortunately prevented any definite result being close and interesting one, but lack of time un arrived at. Kowloon, who went in first, put on 262 runs innings closed and trying to get their opponents for 5 wickets before declaring their out. The Club XI in the remaining time lost with 3 wickets to fall. In direct contrast to 7 wickets for 232 runs, thus being 30 behind the bowlers match at Xmastide, batamen had a field-day at New Year,

ear, and Lieut. Burke, Lieut Ross, R. J. Gerrard, and Capt. Ainslie made a lot of runs, while nine others got into double figures. In the circumstances bowlers naturally had a poor time. Scores and analysis:

met & Company, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, at Happy Valley, before a good turn-out of spectators. The teams were:-

Hongkong:: Goal-Woodgates; backa- Kew and Russell; half-backs-Jenkins, Bonnar, and Howard; forwards-Low, Lee, Tullock

Lambert; half-backs-Clark, Pugh, and Gill (Capt., B.A.)., Noble, Clapham (Lieut., R.G.A.) Fusiliers-Goal-Miles; backs Jasper and

forwards-Davis, Cheatle, Boulton, Lloyd, and Jones.

The game started at four o'clock, Boulton, for the Fusiliers, setting the ball in motion. Cheatle and Davis carried it up the field, but lost to Russell. Noble got possession, and the Hongkong forwards had a try for goal. Clark tackled, and a shy against the club resulted. To save a long shot from Boulton, Woodgates ran out and conceded a corner-why, w not evident. Low's men got on the ball, which was kiøked in from corner by Davis,

and succeeded in completely relieving the pressure and removing operations to Fusilier territory. Noble sent in a slow ball that easily saved by Miles. The Fusiliers, time, could not get away, and thin ing rather gloomy for them w tured and manœuvred the 1 centre. Kew tackled, and, rege passed to Lee, who, however, shot wide.
