VERNON & SMYTH'S SHARE REPORT HONGKONG, 16th November.-Business con- tinues quiet and there is nothing of importance to report. Rates in most cases remain practi- cally unchanged, but a little inclined to weak-

BANKS.--Hongkong and Shanghais have been placed at 312 and 313 per cent. prem. for cash, and small sales have been made for March at 328 per cent. prem. Nationals have been placed at $26 and $264 and are still wanted at the former rate.
MARINE INSURANCES.-China Traders have changed hands at $52 and Unions at $245, Cantons are still unobtainable. In the absence of local business rates for the Northern Insu: rances are taken from the latest Shanghai circulars. Straits remain unchanged and with- out business.
FIRE INSURANCES.-Both Hongkongs and Chinas continue quiet at quotations with sellers and no sales.

SHIPPING.-Hongkong, Canton and Macaos have ruled quieter with sales at $32 and close with sellers at that rate. Indos. upon the uu- expected declaration of at 4 per cent. interim dividend have been in some demand and sales have been effected at $92, $93, $94 and $96 cash, at $95 and $97 for December and $96 and $100 for March, market closes steady at $96. Douglas continue on offer at $41, but without business. Star Ferry old issue were enquired for early in the week, but holders were not | inclined to part at $18, later, however, shares were on offer at $18. New issue is obtainable at $41. China Mutuals and China and Manilas unchanged and without business.

REFINERIES.-China Sugars continue improve and shares have changed hands at $117 and $118 cash and at a little more than equivalent rates forward, market closing at $124. Luzons remain neglected and out of the market.
MINING.-Punjoms have been dealt in to a small extent at $2.75. Queens Mines at 7 couts, and Jelebus at $74. Olivers after the publication of the Mining Manager's report and' last crushing for Mill running five weeks (315 oz. from 625 tons) were enquired for and sales were effected at $1.30 and $1.40 for Bs., market closing steady at $1.40. A small demand for Raubs at $50 during the week has not been met. Caledonians have been neglected.
DOCES, WHARVES AND GODOWNS.-Hong- kong and Whampoa Docks continue very quiet with sellers at $545 and no buyers or sales. Kowloon Wharves have improved to $85 with sales. Wanchais unchanged.
CHINA OVERLAND TRADE REPORT.
MISCELLANEOUS.-Green Islands have chang- ed hands at $187 in fair lots, but close with sellers at $184. Ices have been placed at $175 and $178, Dairy Farms at $81, United Asbestos at $8 and Watkins at $10.20. Electrics have been enquired for at $11 without leading to any but a small business.
MEMOS.-A. S. Watson & Co.'s interim dividend payable on 28th instant. Transfer books close from 21st to 30th instant.

LANDS, HOTELS AND BUILDINGS.-Hong- kong Lands have ruled rather quieter with only small sales at $192, sellers at $191 ruling the
Star Ferry market at time of closing. Hotels have changed hands at $118 and are now enquired Tebrau Planting Co.... for at $119. Shares are also enquired for for- | United_Asbestos ward at equivalent rates, but holders do not seem inclined to part except at a substantial advance in rates. West Points continue dull with sellers at $50§ and no business. Hum- phreys remain steady at $11 with fair sales. Oriente Hotels have been enquired for at $50 and could probably be placed at a slightly higher rate.
COTTON MILLS-Small sales of Hongkongs are reported at $6 and close with buyers at $5. Quotations for the Northern Mills are taken from the latest Shanghai circulars.
