JOINT STOCK SHARES. HONGKONG, 12th October.A fair general business has been transacted during the week and rates have been well maintained in most cases. Some Manila stock are now quoted for the first time.

BANKS. Hongkong and Shanghais were negotiated in the early part of the weak at 313 and 315 per cent. prom, and later a fair number changed hands at 314 per cent. prem, market closing steady at the last rate. Latest London quotation by Renter is £57. Nationals unchang- ed and without business.

MARINE INSURANCES.-Small sales of China Traders have been effected at $56, but more are obtainable at that rate. Unions have been on offer at $265 without inducing business (cum divedend), and Cantons have been enquired for at $135 without bringing any shares on the market. Straits and Northern Insurances un- changed and without business.

FIRE INSURANCES.-Hongkongs remain steady to strong at $295, with small sales. Chinas have been placed at $76, $77 and $78, closing steady at the last rate.

SHIPPING. Hongkong, Canton and Macaos continue in good demand and sales have been effected at $314, $317 and $32, closing steady at the last rate. Indos have ruled quiet with only small sales at $86. China and Manilas (new issue), have found further buyers at $28 and a few more shares are obtainable at that rate. China Mutuals unchanged and without business.

REFINERIES-China Sugars are enquired for at $105 and Luzons continue in a small demand at $35.

MINING. Panjoms remains very quiet with only small sales at $31 and $8, a further small demand, however, at 83 remains unsatisfied. Olivers, both A's and B's, have been on offer during the week at quotations without induc- ing business. Jelebus have been placed at $71, $7 and $8, closing at last rate. Queens and Caledonians continue neglected and without business. Raubs have ruled steady with small sales at $55.

DOCKS, WHARves and GodOWNS.-Hong- kong and Whampoa Docks remain unchanged and without business, a demand for shares at a few points under the quoted rate having failed to bring out any share. Kowloon Wharves have been placed at the reduced rates of 8844 and $84, closing steady at $844. Wanchais are wanted at $61, but no business has been transacted.

LANDS, HOTELS AND BUILDINGS.-Houg- kong Lands continue to improve and sales have been effected during the week at $82, 882) and $83, market closing firm at $834 with further buyers. Hotels remain out of the market and the quotations is more or less nominal. West Points have ruled quiet with only small sales at $51 and close with sellers at 851. Humphreys have been dealt in largely at 810.75, $10.90, $1!, and $114, closing with sellers at

the last rate.

COTTON MILLS.-Unchanged and without business, except Hongkongs, which have been placed at $8.

MISCELLANEOUS.-Green Islands have rule1 weaker with sales at $191. $19) and $19, market closing steady and quiet at $19. China Borneos after sale at $31 are still enquired for at quotation. Watsons have improved to $16 with buyers and Fenwicks to $52 with silus. China Providents have changed, bands and are still wanted at $91. Watkins have been placed at $10

HONGKONG, 12th October-Since last report, freights coastwise have declined. Saigon to Hongkong, 174 cents per picnl is offered for small carriers; to Java and Philippines, no charters have been effected. Bangkok to this, 29 and 34 cents per picul might be obtained for a small steamer. Java to Hongkong, a steamer has been fixed to load at two ports north coast at 45 cents per picul (wet sugar). Newchwang to Canton, 38 and 10 cents per picul according to size have been paid; to Amoy, tonnage is wanted at cents per pioni. Coal freights.-Hongay to this, $2 per ton. Moji to Hongkong and Singapore, no demand at present, the ratss being nominally $2.80 and $3.50 per ton respectively. Sailing vessels. Hence to New York, tonnage is no wanted.
