Raw Cotton :-Indian Cotton during the interval has been a dead letter, no negociations being entered into; meanwhile stocks have been heavily auguiented by frequent arrivals and we estimate unsold goods in the hands of importers close upon 4,500 bales. No business has been reported in China or other descriptions. We quote Bengal $20 to $25, American $26 to $20, Rangoon $18 to 324, and Chins $26 to $28.

Exchange on India has improved slightly and closes firm to-day at Rs. 146 for T/T and Rs. 146 for Post on Shanghai 714.

From the 91st ultimo to the 5th instant the undernoted business has been reported from Shanghai in Indian, Japanese and Local spin- nings, viz—

Indian-Total sales 6,072 bales, comprising 2,392 bales No. 10s. 425 bales No. 12, 45 bales

No. 16s, and 8,210 bales No. 204. prices remaining with little alteration as those last given and market closing steady. Estimated unsold stock 65,000 bales.

Japanese-Business in these threads is still confined amongst the natives and about 2,500 bales are reported to have changed hands on the basis of Tle. 75 to 77 for No. 168. and Tle. 79 to 77 for No. 206. prices showing a decline of 1 to 2 Taels, market closing weak. Estimated unsold stock about 16,000 bales.

Local: Total sales 1,650 bales on the basis of Tls. 76 to 77 fór No. 128. Tis. 771 to 79 for No. 148. and Tls. 78 to 80 for No. 169., prices showing a decline of 2 Taels and market closing unsteady.
