OLIVERS FREEHOLD MINES, LIMITED.
er J. D. Humphreys & Son, the general managers, have received the following report from the Mining Manager of work done during the
month of March, 1900,
Rise South of Shaft above 100 Level. (Mark 1 A on plan)—Has gone up 10 feet here, the lode is very much broken up, due to the presence several flaws in succession, and the gold con- tenta are also very much lower, The lode matter is about 16 inches in thickness and worth 51 dwts. I am expecting an improvement, as the rule of the field is that when the oxidised sone is reached, the lode may be smaller, but is generally much richer,
Stope No. 1. South over 150 feet Level (B in plan).—The lode averages 10 inches in thick- ness, is in sasy country and worth 12 dwts. per
ton.
Stope No. 2. (C in plan):-The lode here averages 18 inches in thickness and is worth 121 dwts, per ton, and I am pleased to report that the lode is going up strong.

** 150 feet Level South (D in plan).—The lod● in the face of this level is 4 feet in thickness but poor, the Foot Wall portion, vis, 36 inches assaying 3 dwts, and the Hanging Wall 3 dwts, the Foot Wall portion only going to the battory. The level has been driven for the month 38 feet. Under 150 feet Level South (E in plan).-
What portion This blook is now worked ont. remains is 4 in, in thickness and worth 7 dwts.
Stope over 150 feet Level North (F in Plan). Here the lode was 9 in. in thickness and after removing 6 tons the stone cut out. This stone was crushed by itself and yielded 11 ozs. 1 dwt., equal to 1.85 ozs, per ton."

General Remarks. In reviewing the work done at the Mine, I feel satisfied with the pro- gress made, particularly in the Wiaze and 300 It. Level. Unfortunately the lode in many places was small and low grade except in the No. 2 Rise over the 150 ft. Level South. Here we have a decided improvement, whilst in other places the lode has been large and low grade, and particularly is this so in the 150 feet Level South and also in the Winze and 300 feet Level. I am in hopes of the lode in the 150 feet. Level South and also in the Winze and 300 feet Level. I am in hopes of the lode in the 150 feet Level South and the 300 feet Level improving in quality. During this month as already stated the lode in the 300 feat Level has improved from 2.2 dwts. to 4 dwts, per ton.
It will take the best part of this month to prepare the payable blocks of ore so as to work them economically, and, to facilitates matter I must drive an Intermediate North from the Winze as in dotted lines in the Winze. I shall start on Friday next.

FINE IMPOSED.
The steamer Belgika, chartered to Mendezona & Co., and owned by the Philippine Trading Company, of which Mr. Audré is president, has been fined $50,000 by the American Government. On the last trip the Belgika called at the port of Baybay on the island of Leyte. At any rate André & Co. re. lieved one and possibly three foreign members of the ship's outfit and paid their way to Singa- pore; but this did not prevent the news of the law-breaking being made public. Apparently, as though the deal was right, the trip to the un- equipped port was duly entered on the Belgika's log. On her return to Manila she was immedi. ately seized.

Now the question comes as to who shall pay
Battery has had several short stoppages, due to GREEN ISLAND CEMENT COMPANY, the heavy fine, which is nearly half the value of the main belt breaking. This belt was com pletely worn out and has been replaced by a new ong, A few necessary repairs at the Battery have been attended to and everything is working well to date. For the month ended 502 tons have been crushed, yielding Amalgam as
