JOINT STOCK SH ARES. HONGKONG, 16th March.-A fair business has been transacted during the week and rates have ruled steady, except in Sugar shares which have been erratic and difficult to follow.
BANKS.-Hongkong and Shanghai's continue steady at 321 per cent. with very little business for cash, but sales are reported at 330 per cent. for April and 334 and 335 per cent. for May, At time of closing forward shares are obtainable at these quotations and cash shares at 322 Nationals unchanged, with a small business at 25 by div.
MARINE INSURANCES-China Traders have changed hands at $53 and $52. but close with buyers and no sellers at the latter rate. Unions are ecquired for at quotations, but are difficult to got. Cantons have found buyers at $130. Straits unchanged and still neglected. Quota tions for the Northern Insurance in the absence of local business are taken from the latest Shanghai circulars.
SHIPPING. Hongkong Canton and Macaos have changed hands in fair lots at 829 and are still wanted at that rate; shares, however, ars obtainable at $294. Indos have changed hands during the week at $90, and $91, for cash and at $93 for May and $94 for June, market closing steady at $91. Douglases have been in demand and after sales at $49, have advanced to $51, with sales and buyers. China Manilas and China Mutuals remains unchanged and without business.

REFINERIES-China Sugars in the early part of the week fell to $136, with sales after which demand suddenly but the rate up again to $146, at which rate business was done. rate, however, was not long maintained and quckly fell to $140 without finding buyers and at time of closing shares are obtainable at $138. Luzons unchanged and without business.
MINING-Puujoms have changed hands ut $7.75. Jelebus Queens and Queens and Olivers at quotations. Great Easterns at 90 cent. and B's at $4.75. Raubs have ruled easier with sellers at 8614 and ro buyers or sales. Charbonnages unchanged and without bus- iness.

MISCELLANEOUS Green Islands have found buyers at $30, $301 and $301, a large number having changed hands at time of closing the market is rather quieter with sellers at $30. Watsons have ruled quiet with sellers at $164. Ices have been on offer at $165 without enducing sales. Dairy Farms and Tramways are enquired for at quotations without bringing any share- into the market. United Asbestos' have chan- ged hands at $5 and China Providents at
$9.40.

HONGKONG, 16th March.-A lage number of settlements have been effected during the last two weeks, and freights remain firm. From Saigon to this, 25 cents was paid at the beginning of the week. 22 cents is offered, for loading n fortnight hence; to but owing to a fall in the price of rice here, only
one port Philippines, 45 cents per picul; to Java (north coast) 42 cents per picul. Newchwang to Canton, 45 cents per picul; to Amoy, 45 cents per picul. Java to Hongkong, 40 cents per picul is ole lainable. Japa e al freights.-Moji to this, there is a good demand for steamers March/April loading, at $2.80 per ton; to Singapore, $3.15 per ton. Two siling vessels have been chartered to load at this port, one for New York and the other for Callao, Valparaiso, rates private.
