In this race there were three entries but at the starting point Lacock in the bow of the Jubilee had the misfortune to break an oar- lock. Nothing daunted the remaining oars- main went to work with a will at what appeared a hopeless task. His comrade to relieve him of 14 stone deadweight jumped overboard and was picked up by one of the launches. In the meantime the Terrible was gradually forging ahead of the Powerful and Bually beat her by a couple of lengths, with Jubilee bringing ap the rear.
