less active. This is the natural re-action after the heavy transactions that have gone through during the last few weeks, and ay no more goods can be obtained for the early Spring trade buyers are not disposed at present to look much further nhand. Of course if has been possible, and will there, but this will have no perceptible effect on continue to be so, to pick up odd parcel. here and the general trade; when the obance is given, how- ever, they are snapped up with avidity. Sales of goods afloat, which are confined to a comparative ly few Importers, are still practicable at satisfac. orily covering rates, but not at replacing prices, which it is not possible to get while so much cheaply bought indent cargo is coming along. In this way the warket has no chance of settling down on an equable basis, and prices, through the exigencies of the position, must rale very irregularly. At Auction too, notwithstanding the quantity offered was not quite so large as the previous week, prices went back still farther for almost all Cotton goods. The news from our dependencies continues favourable and clearances have been exceptionally good. The Yaru market is strengthening owing to the bigher prices ruling in India caused by the anticipated shortness in the Cotton crop through the want of ruin. This, coupled with a speculative enquiry on account of the unfavourableness of the weather for the native Cotton crop, has caused an advance in local spin- nings, but business has been curtailed owing to the firmness of spinners.
SHANGHAI, 5th August.-(From Messrs. Noë! Murray & Co.'s Picce Goods Trade Report.)- While not showing any diminution in strength our market during the interval has certainly been I
