May 27, 1899.]

A mishap occurred to the organ bellows at St. Andrew's Cathedral, Singapore, the other Sunday evening, which, writes a correspondent of the Singapore Free Press, recalls a similar misfortune to the instrument which did duty before the present magnificent organ was erected at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Shanghai. During the singing of the anthem, one Sunday morning, about fifteen or sixteen years ago, the bellows of the orgau suddenly burst, when, of course, no one expected it, to the great consternation of the organist, choir, and congregation; how. ever, the anthem was got through somehow. On this occasion Mr. Feutum, formerly organist of St. Andrew's Cathedral in Singapore, and Mr. Salzmann's predecessor, was presiding at the instrument. In years gone by, when organs that had not been built for the climate, were put up in several churches in India, it was com- mon to hear of the bellows collapsing during orvioo.
