Metals.-200 piculs Wire Nail Iron at $5.00, 2,520 piculs Square, Round, and Flat Bars Iron at $4.25 to arrive.

SHANGHAI, 4th March.-(From Messrs. Noël, Murray & Co.'s Piece Goods Trade Report.) Piece Goods.-The market has continued ex- tremely quiet throughout the week in every de- partment. Early in the interval advices were part of the way up to Tientsin. The Steamer received that the Peiho was open the greater Companies therefore determined to despatch of the Piece Goods men. Sowe eight or ten have their vessels at once, irrespective of the wishes left this within the last two or three days; they carry however, little else but Rice and General Cargo, the only Cotton Goods or Yarn being on Foreign account, the Natives deciding not to ship until about the 9th or 10th inst. The delay is likely to increase the shipments, which are now expect. ed to reach 55,000 packages, a quantity the dealers evidently think will be sufficient to thoroughly try the market, and consequently they are anxious to lay in further supplies at present. There is likewise considerable uncer- tainty about the near future, on account of the persistent rumours that troops have been ordered neighbourhood of Tientsin and Peking, which to mobilise from all parts of the country in the

certainly looks as though some important move- ment, by those in authority, is on the tapis and has to be guarded against. No doubt when the` steners return some light will be thrown on the subject and the dealers will know better how to act. Meanwhile clearances are going on cheap in the open market, so much so that in several instances lately goods have been paid for before arrival, to make sure of the Exchange. There is quite a dearth of news from the Out- ports, and judging by the Auction results, as well as the smallness of the current trade, very few orders have come in since the holidays. The market is improving for Fancy Goods, but much higher prices are wanted now before indents can be put through for Dyed makes, owing to the recent strike amongst operatives in Manchester, which will add about three pence a piece to the cost of dyeing from the first of next month.' In spite of this, however, further orders have been booked for Fast Black Italians. The market has been as quiet for Yarn as for goods. - A slight decline in prices in Japan has had the effect of searing speculative holders here, who are anxious to realise now and have dropped the price a tael per bale. Indian and Local spinnings are steady to firm, so far, especially the latter, owing to the.
