The M1 chester market, however, slowa no sign ol weakti 25, and the same may be said of thos In the States, which should be somewhat n courging to recent heavy operators, a further rise in sterling being the chief thing to dread now. The enormous export figures last month have bein fully confirmed, and private enquires have elicited the additional information that the sixty-seven million yards of Plaiu Cottons are made up of 46,000,000 yards Greys for Shanghai and 10,8.5,000 yards to Hingkong, thus leaving 10,125,0 yards presumably of Bleached goods, to be divided between tle two markets. The dealers are not at all disconcerted at these figures, and appear to be full of confid, ace that there will be ample demand for it all ao soon as the markets Oj×0. The more cautious faporters, however, ar looking at them with some anxiety, and wre afraid that the success which has attended the malicia engaged in this trade during the,

JOINT STOCK SHARES. HONGKONG, 18th February.Although rates have still further risen during the week under review, business has continued slack and only small transfers have been made. The market generally closes firm with more buyers than sellers. Persistent rumours are current of a further reduction in the Bank deposit rate of interest and, even of a further reduction of interest on overdrafts, which accounts in some measure for the rise in the market value of shures. We have been unable to find any grounds for these rumours, however, and simply give them for what they are worth.
