CHINA MAIL PHOTO FEATURE
Anxiety
in his
toes
The anxiety shows in this young man's toes. And well it might show on any fellow who sees the hulking figure of a "foreigner" suddenly appear from behind. Grandma, however, seems quite un- concerned, as she plods her weary way along.
The man with the camera is China Mail's Frank Fischbeck, who starts a new daily feature from today.
Frank has the rare talent of finding the "human interest" in his subjects. In this series, he concentrates on the teeming child life in the streets of Hongkong. "There's a wealth of interesting mater- ial here," he says. "I find it fascinating.”
He spots his subject, raises his camera to his eye, and clicks and the results are-this picture, and the others that will appear for a fortnight.
In this case, there was something about the Chinese inscription on the piece of cloth that particularly attracted him.
He learned later that it amounts to the general wish that the child might go through his daily life without hindrance perhaps, for an occasional prying photographer.
