A Conservative Peer, Lord Birdwood, asked in the House of Lords today
if it was possible in any way to control or influence the publication in
Britain of material inimical to the defence of the free world.
Lord Mills, Paymaster- General, replying for the government, said that, ex- cept in the most exceptional circumstances, the govern- 'ment had no wish to limit the freedom of the press.
