Horrific crucifixion painting
London, Apr. 26.
A huge horrific modern crucifixion sceno by Italian artist Pietro Annigoni ot an exhibition which opened here gavo
a jolt to art lovers who had previously admired his society portraits including the wellknown one of the Queen. Gruocome skeleton figures strown below a blue-trousored mon on the cross fill a 17 by 12-foot convas. The cross is topped with an inverted Coca-Cola sign and the crucifixion has a Now York skyline background.
In the some exhibition the Italian artist is showing his own portraits of the Queen, Princess Margaret and the Duke of Edinburgh together with works by 110 of his past and present pupil. The startling unexpected crucifixion sconc took Annigoni three years to paint and ho has so far refused to put a price on it.
"People think of ma only as a portrait painter but I have done many paint- ings of this type" he said or the exhibition.-China Mail Special.
