Coast guards flashed a bon voyage signal today to a lone yachtsman passing Land's End bound for New York in the first solo Trans-Atlantic Yacht Race. British sailor-adventurer "Blondie" Hasler headed in the open ocean apparently in the lead after one day of the race,
But he and two other com- petitors somewhere at sea still have over 3,000 miles to go.

Rochester, June: 12. Twenty-four valuable greyhounds died and two were badly Injured when fire swept the kennels at a stadium here tonight,
Two of the dogs were worth £1,000 each, ac cording to the trainer, Mr Reginald Morley.
The single storey wooden kennel building, 80 feet long and 80 feet wide, was divided into two blocks, each containing 28 dogs. The fire was con fined to one block and this was almost completely burnt out.
Mr Morley forced his way in through the flames, but was overcome by the smoke and dragged out unconscious.

The dogs in the undamaged block were released by the trainer's head lad. They escaped, terrified by the flames and smoke, some of them with burns, and ten are still missing-China Mail Special.
