An American petroleum company is investi- gating possibilities of erecting a refinery plant in Hongkong which would cost more than HK$60 million,

This was announced today by Mr N. L. Tsai, General

Manager of the US. Summit Corporation (panana),

Hongkong Branch,

Mr Tsai said that already representatives of his company have surveyed Ching I and Nuntao Islands as possible sites.

"Nothing definite has yet been decided but the cor- poration is very interested in setting up a refinery in Hongkong," Mr Tsai said this morning.

"The refinery would cost more than HK$60 million and would be set up on one of the Hongkong Islands," he added.

Mr Tsai said that the output from the proposed re- finery would be mainly for export.

"Of course some percentage of production would be for local consumption," he said.

He also said that his corporation plan to set up a similar plant in Bangkok.

"In fact the trend of my firm is to finally erect a re- finery in all of our 11 Far East offices," he said.
