Campaign Against Diphtheria Begins T In HK On Monday

With the onset of the period of increasing infection

from Diphtheria,

anti- a Colony-wide Diphtheria campaign will swing into action on Monday.

Dr S. H. Moore, Assistant Director of Health Ser- vices, told the China Mail this morning that inoculation teams will he sent to schools and inoculation centres will be set up throughout the Colony.

Sir-The report on the front page of yesterday's China Mall by "A China Mail Reporter" on the current prices of Toilot Preparations and Proprietary Medicines is, lo say the least, misleading. Who

the "rellable authority" from whom he "learned" his Information? Why could be not have obtained the information required for his report personally by interview- Ing Importers and

retailers? That is the Job of a reporter, surely, not to rely on second- hand information which máy well be slanted to suit the "reliable authority's" purpose.

The report lays all the blame for the non-reduction in prices, n thore comparatively tow cases where no reductions have been made, at the feet of the importers and agents, but is this tair? There are in Hongkong very few Instances of agreed retail prices. and therefore those cannot who sell to retailors control their selling prices—so even when an importer or agent has reduced his prices there is nothing to stop the relailer pocketing the extra proft-ir he can get away with it.
