RECREIO 'B' SCORE UPSET VICTORY AGAINST KBGC

By ROBERT TAY

With the exception of two matches, the fifth week's games in the Colony lawn bowls league last Saturday went well according to form, though some of the winning teams were fully extended by their less favoured opponents. Recreio "B" sprang a major surprise in the first division when they edged out Kowloon Bowling Green Club by 41, and Filipino Club did extremely well in the same division to beat IRC "B" at the Indians' home green by a similar margin. Biggest caoually of the week A. K. Minu. Groen Advantage Green advantage played a tremendous part in Craigon

the In- Hower's victory over dans. On the heavily-grassed rendered still heavier by morning rain, the Indians failed to reproduce any semblance of their home form of earlier weeks. Time and again, they falled to get up to the jack, and but for some sterling work by their skips, the margin of their defeat would have been, much greater.

FRE R. Omar, A. R. Hitchell, K. M. Omar M. B. Hassan put up a gallant #ght against F. Lee, A. M. L. Suures, A. E. Coates and G. Souza and were only one shot down at the tea-interval, Skip M. B. Hassan played a great Hume for his four, coming in to suve on a number of occasions.

The grenier consistency of the CCC bowlers, particularly Coates : No. 3 and skip Souza was, however, too rauch for the Indiana in the second half of the zame, Three fours by the CCC whatever combination ended resistance that was left, and the best the Indians coujd do was to eut down their nargin of defeat To 14-24.

Brilliant Drawing

IRC's only point came from M. Yusuf, S. Bucks, J. M. A. HumJahn and J. Hoosen, who scored a deserving 22-18 triumph over P. R. Ragi, P. K. Lau, G. Hung Choy and S. I.. Leonard,

Russia Steps Up Tennis Challenge

Russia first entered the international tennis world (at least since the days of the Czars) by entering a boy and a girl in last year's junfor Wimbledon tourna ment. This year four Russian players will be coming to the world's premier tournament, and Anna Dimi. trieva, 18, one of their last year's representatives, will be moved up a notch to challenge in the senfor women's singles.

All the four Russian players will be in their teens, for the USSR's thlef coach, Simon Bellts-Galman is looking far ahead, with a view to entering the Davis Cup with a strong chance some time in the mid- Bixties.
