ALISTAIR STEWART
His Pleasure
Is Not
In Winning
But Having A Bash
This week our sports personality is a motor sports enthusiast...
one
of the kernest the Colony has ever known. He is Alistair Stewart. Alistair's enthusiasm is so great in fact, that nothing short of sickness or some unavoidable circumstance can keep him from entering any type of local motoring event. He even cut short his Home leave once, to participate at the Macao races.
Now just where does this en- thusiasm spring from?
Well, Alistair was born into motoring family. His father was one-lime expurt mannger of Morris Motors and himself

From very early age therefore, Alistair just took a natural interest in anything on four wheels.
Poking Around
Alistair is an engineer by pro fession and enjoys working en his car. Normally he does his awn ting.
There is a special reason why he likes motor sports. It may be a matter of "mastery over a machine that wants controling," Bu for the most part, it boils down to one thing as far as Alistair is concerned, just like poking around in actor

Alistair is careful, considerate and always willing to tend hand to other motorists who may be in difficulties. As re- Rards this last factor. one motorist recalls how Alistair had towed him all the way back to Hongkong from Sek Kong after his car had broken down. He always keeps a tow

the boot.
Placed Fourth
Alisafe come to Hongkong In 1947 and three years layer he entered the first Hongkong 'AA' Rally. Driving 1947 model Vauxhall '14' he came in fourth. From here on in. Alistair has rarely missed Q Jocal motor sports event, except when he has gone home on leave. Even then he takes time out to visit the motor scorts events at Silverstone, Goodwood, Oulton Park and Le Mans, Armed with a movie camera he takes Alms and from these, he often studios the techniques

Here in
HongkonE, Allstalr has competed in the Hongkong 'AA' Bally on nine occasions and has been the outright win- ner of the last three-once in his old Vauxhall 14' (affection- ately known as the 'Old Lady'), and twice in his Triumph TR3, which he acquired in 1950.
First Credit
Motor
As far as the local Sports Club is concerned, he has won nearly every type of event that they have staged.
Going back a while, he won the first large scale MSC Rally --the Christmas Rally, in 1953.
Besides this, he has also been second or third on many oc- rusions in other MSC Rallies,
Alistair however, gives frst credit his navigators for any success in Rallies, The most successful here was when bo teamed up with Sid Allen fron 1052 untii Sid was transferred to Jepan in 1957.

In 1955 he won in a Fiat 000; in 1958 he was second to Bob Ritchie in a Flat 1100TV and the year before last he won in
In the way of organisation, Alistair is equally enthusiastic and was the first to introduce to the MSC the more com- plicated pattern of rallying with the Spring tallies of 1955 and 1950. He also instigated the Novices Rally held for the Brst time last year.

My front offside torsion bar fractured half way through and I barely limped along for the remaining 80 miles," Strangely enough. Alistair's time got better and better and he won.
