Saints Take On The Seminoles In Week's Only Senior Game

By "TIME OUT”

The Annual Camps have once again claimed a great percentage of our local softballers and as a result only four games are scheduled for the week-end.

In the only Senior game, the Saints take on the Seminoles. In the Juniors, the Dodgers and Eagles tangle with the Comets and University nine respectively whilst in the ladies' league the undefeated South China meet the winless Toreros.

Diesta's Dodgers are in neck to neek race with the Cheye nes (also undefeated) and should they continue to play ball heads up they could lower the colours of the Cheyennes and take the Pennant.

The Seminoles are at last get- ting a grip of themselves as was shown when they thrashed the Pandas 9-4. The Indians are fast but tack butting power. If they gel wise to Salleh's de- liveries early in the game the Saints may not find things go- ing too smoothly.

Last week, I had the pleasure to meet a former Chairman of the Hongkong Softball Associa Uon, who is on a world tour. 1 asked him what he thought of the standard of play now com- pared with the days gone by. He remarked that the standard had doinitely gone down and it would take quite some time before It could reach great heights. On being asked why he should think so, he said the reason behind this was mainly because there are too few peo- ple who are really interested.

He continued by saying that

there was experienced men lo guide

Advice

I asked him what advice he would give and to this tre said, "I would like Lo

the youngsters play softball as il should be played. They should play for their team's welfare and not io the stands. A grandstand player doesn' normally get very for. I have seen many such players in my days and I am sorry to say none of them got very far."

So to all the youngsters in Hongkong, I say, "sel personal glory aide and you will achieve greater fame....

Το all softballers, there is the very sound advice from 2 man who has been in the game long be fore many of us were born.
