In tho South China Morning Post on Saturday of an item stating that ships of the Dollar and American Mail lincs took on large supplies of spirits and iquors in Hongkong for the first time since Prohibition was enacted in the United States, recalls an incident connected with the disposal of stocks whon, Prohibition was enforced.
On January 10, 1930, over two
years after the famous Eighteenth Amendment was in- troduced in Congress, the notes- sary two-thirds of the States of America adopted it and Pro- Bibition was brought into force.
It was ruled that the Amend- ment would be applicable to ali ships flying the American ensign and large stocks of spirits and ilquors were dumped in Hong- kung from several ships.
