MISSED PENALTY

With Chelsea recently in a goal rush and Aston Villa Ginding life heavy going, the first division English league match between the two teams on Sep. tember 13. should have been a pushover for the Londoners.

But Ted Drake's eager, talented youth brigade found unexpectedly obstin- ate opposition from Villa, and just managed to scrape through 2-1, after missing a penalty and converting another.

Photo shows the missed penalty in the eighth minute of play. Chelsea's Peter Sillett takes the spot-kick, but sends the ball too wide and Sims, the Aston

goalkeeper watches it go harmlessly past the post.

America's 21-Year Monopoly Of Wimbledon Ladies' Crown May Now Be In Danger

By DEREK JOHN

London, Sept. 22. "Althea Gibson's decision to concentrate on singing instead of tennis for

a year means that the Americans' 21-year-monopoly of the Wimble don ladies' singles crown is in danger of being broken.

The United States has such promising youngsters as Sally Moore, Janet Hopps, and the 15-year-old Californian prodigy, Miss Karen Kantz. But none of them, I faney, has the skill and experience to become the 1959 Wimbledon champion.

BEATS MRS COLVIN 6-1, 6-4 IN FINAL

By ROBERT TAY

Seventeen-year-old schoolgirl, Tsui Yuon-yuen, of Bolilos Girls' School, yesterday successfully regained the Colony ladies' singles tennis title, which she first won in 1956 and then lost to Linda Mitchell last year.

In the final of the event played at the Ladies' Recreation Club before a good crowd she defeated Mrs Ann Colvin by 6-1, 6-4, after only 35 minutes' play-12 minutes for the first set and 23 for the second.
