MOYA REA
Sets the Seal On An Accomplished Performance
Moya Rea first appeared on the stage as a four-year-old child vocalist in concerts given by the Hamilton Municipal Band in her native New Zealand. Her first broadcasting came at the age of eleven singing, and playing the violin and plano from Station IYA, Auckland.
*
Ar 15 Moya made her first professional broad- cast as a soloist, and from then on came a string of concert performances. However, she 'soon developed ensemble a special interest in broadcasting and work and ultimately became the leader of two perTTIS- New Zealand, tour- nent broadcasting Orchestras ing with the New Zealand National Symphony Orchestra,
In 1948 Moya went to London for further study and experience. There and on the Continent she played a good deal of music, and took part in several first performances under the direction of composers Vaughan Williams, Arthur Bliss, Benjamin Britten. Michael Tippett, Roger Quilter and Matyas Shreiber,
Moya Rea came to Hongkong in 1951 and since 1952 she has been Radio Hongkong's resident accompanist. During this time she has played for many local and visiting artists, the latter including Miklos Caffni. Ruggiero Ricci, Maurice Clare, Jan Peerce, lan Wilson, Maurice Wilk and fellow New I Zealanders Andrew Cold and Inia te Wiata with whom she had broadcast many years before back in New Zealand.
Moya has rather neglected the violin for the piano recently but is equally fond of both, and many She enjoys would say equally accomplished at both. playing for and with other musicians and to listeners the announcement "the accompanist was Moya Rea" sets the seal on an accomplished performance,
