WILKIE COLLINS

"MOONSTONE”

It is often said that it was Wilkie Collins who started the English detective story. Whether this is true or not he's certainly a great story teller and made a tremendous impact on the Victorian public in England with his great mystery story-"The Moon- stone." The moonstone is a famous Indian diamond which disappears under strange circumstances from the country house of the Verinda family. The attempts to regain the stone and to solve the mystery are worked out in a beautifully complicated plot with many subtle twists and turns. "The Moonstone" has been adapted by Howard Agg and produced for the BBC by Martyn C. Webster. It will be broadcast in eleven episodes; the First will be heard at 8.45 p.m. on Thursday night.
